It's so rare to see him smile like that (or at all)!

Why would an alien/Egyptian guy be opposed to immigration?

(although his willingness to completely change his backstory seems like a typical Republican)

Ron Paul rules.

The problem with Barr is his former positions-- he's the worst kind of libertarian, i.e. really just a republican who hates taxes extra. Opposed gay marriage, championed the war on drugs, voted for the Patriot Act, wanted to ban Wicca in the military, so on. Sure, he's recanted on most of these, but it is frankly TOO MUCH for me to swallow.

I really wish Gravel had gotten the nom.

Isn't a big concern for Hawkman the environment though? I think that's probably his key issue. That might just be Kingdom Come though...

Ha! I love how you're taking super-hero political stereotypes and turning them on their ears. ;-)

Ostrander's Katar was very libertarian.

The Silver Age Katar was ordinary-level law-and-order conservative-- really only a 'conservative' in contrast to Green "root causes" Arrow. He was a cop, and thought like a cop.

The retconned Silver Age Carter was a hardcore Nixon law-and-order conservative-- as well as being kind of a thug, because, well, how else do you seriously characterize a hero who goes around whacking people on the head with a mace?

The modern pseudo-Thanagarian pseudo-Egyptian KaCarter seems a lot more like the retconned Silver Age Carter than he does like either version of Katar. A desire to beat immigrants over the head with his mace isn't out of character. (And Carter Hall probably thinks of himself as a native-born American, even though his current body was born on Thanagar.)

He's worried about Argentinian bird-themed hero Cachiru moving north of the border and taking his job.

Jacob's summation of Hawkman's politics portrayal through the decades sounds pretty on the money to me. (Liz, I bet the Silver Age Hawkman who could talk to birds would probably have been pretty pro-environment, since the birds would always be bitching about wetlands preservation and suchlike to him)

I tend to think of him as "comically Republican" in the same way Green Arrow is "comically liberal;" I just wanted to have them both to be farther to the left/right of the two presidential candidates, who aren't as extreme as their opponents like to say they are.

Given Hawkman's current origin, I wonder if he really would be conservative. I think a lot of conservative values stem from an idealized version of the way things used to be rather than how they actually were. If Hawkman really remembers all his reincarnations now, then he would know that the good old days were always pretty shitty in one way or another.
